3 held in Hong Kong after anti-ageing shots in clinic leave pair seriously ill

Hong Kong police have arrested three people for allegedly practising medicine without a licence at a Central cosmetic clinic after two women suffered from septic shock following anti-ageing intravenous injections.

The women, both 57, were hospitalised after undergoing infusion treatments at a clinic named Bioscor Hong Kong in Crawford House on Queen’s Road Central, the Department of Health said on Thursday.

The women reportedly received infusions containing nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN), a compound marketed for anti-ageing benefits.

“Both women developed chills shortly after the infusion, followed by fever and vomiting,” the department said.

One of them was admitted to Queen Mary Hospital in Pok Fu Lam, and the other to Canossa Hospital in Mid-Levels, with both women clinically diagnosed as suffering from septic shock.

Their conditions had since stabilised, but they remained under observation, the spokesman said.

Septic shock is a life-threatening condition that occurs when a serious infection spreads through the body and causes the organs to start shutting down.
