WATCH: Will Young plucks a screamer to dismiss Harry Brook in 2nd ODI – NZ vs ENG

New Zealand’s Will Young pulled off one of the catches of the series to dismiss England captain Harry Brook during the second ODI at Seddon Park, Hamilton. The brilliant effort came in the 24th over of England’s innings and played a crucial role in shifting the momentum firmly in the hosts’ favour.

Will Young takes a blinder to dismiss Harry Brook

On the second ball of the 24th over, Mitchell Santner bowled a short and wide delivery outside off stump. Brook, who was batting fluently on 34, went for a forceful square drive. However, what followed was a moment of sheer athleticism from Young at backward point.

Young dived full length to his left and stuck out one hand, plucking the ball out of thin air in stunning fashion. The catch left spectators and players stunned, as Brook’s shot seemed destined for the boundary. It was a spectacular display of reflexes, timing, and anticipation — one that instantly made headlines across social media.

Even Brook, who had been leading England’s innings, couldn’t help but smile in disbelief as he made his way back to the pavilion. Fans at Seddon Park erupted in applause, acknowledging Young’s exceptional piece of fielding that will likely be remembered as one of the standout moments of the series.

England collapse after steady start

Before the fall of Brook, England were in a decent position, having recovered from early wickets. However, the dismissal triggered a collapse that saw them bundled out for just 175 in 36 overs. New Zealand’s bowlers maintained relentless pressure, exploiting movement and bounce on the Hamilton surface.

Blair Tickner emerged as the standout performer, claiming a brilliant four-wicket haul. His accurate line and variations troubled the English batters throughout the innings. Supported well by Santner and Matt Henry, Tickner’s spell ensured that England never managed to build a substantial partnership after Brook’s departure.

For England, all-rounder Jamie Overton offered a brief counterattack with a quickfire 42 off 28 balls, including four boundaries and two sixes. However, his efforts weren’t enough to lift the side to a competitive total.
