Huge fire engulfs residential area as firefighters desperately battle inferno

A massive fire has engulfed a residential area in the Philippines, with firefighters rushing to the scene in an effort to bring the inferno under control.

The fire broke out in the city of Mandaluyong today (December 12) at around 7pm local time, engulfing a residential area of Barangay, Pleasant Hills, and spreading fast.

Local media added the fire broke out in a residential area at Block 5, Nueve de Febrero.

It was escalated to a fifth alarm level indicating a major incident requiring extensive firefighting resources, reports from Philippines’ DZRH NEWS said. 

Photos and video footage shared online have captured huge flames and thick plumes of smoke billowing into the air. It is not yet known, at this stage, if anyone is injured.

Firefighters are still on the scene “to battle the massive blaze,” DZHR NEWS also reported.
