WPL 2026: Nat Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet Kaur power Mumbai Indians to dominant win over Delhi Capitals

A commanding all-round performance led by Nat Sciver-Brunt and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur helped Mumbai Indians (MI) cruise to a comprehensive 50-run victory over Delhi Capitals (DC) in the third match of the Womens Premier League (WPL) 2026 at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai.

Mumbai Indians Women were rocked early when Amelia Kerr fell for a first-ball duck, but the setback barely slowed their momentum. Wicketkeeper G Kamalini steadied the innings with a cautious 16, laying the foundation for a match-defining partnership.

Nat Sciver-Brunt then took charge, combining elegance with authority in a superb 70 off 46 balls. Her innings, decorated with 13 boundaries, kept the scoreboard ticking even as Delhi Capitals tried to claw back control. At the other end, Harmanpreet Kaur produced a captain’s knock, remaining unbeaten on 74 from 42 deliveries. The Mumbai skipper mixed timing with power, striking eight fours and three sixes to accelerate decisively in the final overs.

Late cameos from Nicola Carey and Sajeevan Sajana ensured Mumbai Indians finished strongly, scoring 78 runs in the last six overs. Despite tidy spells from Nandani Sharma, Delhi Capitals bowlers struggled to contain the experienced Mumbai middle order, conceding runs at a brisk rate throughout the innings.

Delhi Capitals struggle in the chase

Chasing 196, Delhi Capitals began cautiously but soon found themselves under pressure due to regular wickets. Lizelle Lee provided an early spark before falling to Sciver-Brunt, while Shafali Verma and Laura Wolvaardt were dismissed in quick succession, leaving the Capitals reeling inside the powerplay.

Captain Jemimah Rodrigues could not steady the innings, departing cheaply as Mumbai’s disciplined bowling tightened its grip. A brief counterattack came from Chinelle Henry, who played a lone hand with a fluent 56 off 33 balls, striking five fours and three sixes to keep Delhi Capitals Women in the hunt.

However, the required rate continued to climb as wickets fell at the other end. Middle-order contributions from Niki Prasad and Sneh Rana were unable to sustain momentum, and the Capitals eventually folded for 145, well short of the target.

Mumbai Indians’ bowling attack delivered a polished and controlled performance. Carey and Kerr claimed three wickets each, exploiting pressure created by early breakthroughs. Shabnim Ismail set the tone with a miserly opening spell, while Sciver-Brunt capped a memorable night by picking up two key wickets.

The sharp fielding and consistent bowling ensured Delhi Capitals never built a sustained partnership, underlining MI’s dominance across all departments.
