100% Tariff Threat: Trump draws red line on Canada–China trade

All Canadian products entering US would immediately face a 100 percent tariff if Canada signs a trade agreement.

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has warned Canada of imposing a 100 percent tariff if it enters into a trade agreement with China.

On Saturday, President Trump cautioned that the United States would levy a 100 percent tariff on all goods imported from Canada should Ottawa proceed with any trade deal with Beijing.

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said that if Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney believes he can turn Canada into a “drop-off port” for Chinese goods entering the United States, he is “gravely mistaken.”

The US president added that all Canadian products entering the US would immediately face a 100 percent tariff if Canada signs a trade agreement with China.
