Riyadh’s King Fahd stadium to host 2027 Asian Cup final

King Fahd Sports City Stadium in Riyadh will host both the opening match and the final of the 2027 Asian Cup. The tournament is seen as an important step for Saudi Arabia as it prepares to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup.

Saudi Arabia has already been awarded the 2034 World Cup and will first organize the Asian Cup from January 7 to February 5, 2027. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) confirmed in a statement from Kuala Lumpur that the King Fahd Sports City Stadium will stage the opening game, featuring host nation and three-time Asian champions Saudi Arabia, as well as the tournament final.

The stadium, which can hold more than 70,000 spectators, will also host four group-stage matches, one round-of-16 match, and a quarter-final before the final takes place in early February. Known as “The Tent” because of its roof design inspired by traditional Bedouin tents, it is the largest of the eight stadiums selected for the tournament.

Other Asian Cup matches will be held in Jeddah and Al Khobar. The full match schedule and kick-off times will be finalized during the AFC’s official draw on April 11 in Riyadh.

Qatar, which hosted the 2022 World Cup, organized and won the last Asian Cup two years ago. The tournament had originally been planned for China in 2023 but was moved due to the country’s COVID-19 restrictions at the time.
