Pakistan records second-highest petrol price surge globally

Iran–US–Israel tensions push global fuel prices higher, impacting Pakistan severely.

In a development that is likely to intensify economic pressure on consumers, Pakistan has recorded the second-highest surge in petrol prices globally with a sharp increase of 77.8%, far exceeding international trends.

Data indicates that Myanmar recorded the highest rise with petrol prices soaring by 103.1%, placing Pakistan second on the list of countries facing the steepest fuel price hikes.

The surge comes amid rising global energy costs largely driven by geopolitical tensions following the Iran–US–Israel conflict, which has disrupted markets and pushed fuel prices upward worldwide.

Notably, the global average increase in petrol prices stands at 13.4%, making Pakistan’s spike several times higher in comparison.

Among major economies, the United States has seen a 31% increase in petrol prices, while India and Bangladesh have experienced negligible changes.

Within the region, Nepal recorded a 19.1% rise, whereas Afghanistan and Bhutan reported only marginal increases in fuel prices.
