British tourist dies after getting hair and teeth done in Turkey

A British man is believed to have died in Turkey following a hair transplant and dental work. The 36-year-old tourist reportedly arrived in Istanbul last week before undergoing a hair procedure in the Fulya district. The man then allegedly underwent dental work the following day in the Ayazaga neighbourhood.

Following both treatments, he returned to his hotel in the Sisli district, where he is believed to have fallen ill. Local reports say the man was rushed by ambulance to Seyrantepe Hamidiye Etfal Training and Research Hospital, where he died at around 4.30pm. A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office told the Mirror: “We are in contact with the local authorities following the death of a British national in Turkey.”

His body was reportedly taken for an autopsy at the Forensic Medicine Institute before being returned home by his family.

No information regarding the cause of death has been released and an investigation is believed to have been launched.

The news of the 36-year-old’s death comes just months after a British tourist died in Turkey following a £1,500 hair transplant.

Martyn Latchman, 38, was rushed to hospital where he later died after having a five-hour procedure on July 28.

Staff members at the clinic were questioned about the death by Istanbul Province Health Directorate.

More than one million tourists visit Turkey annually for hair transplants, according to the Turkish Healthcare Travel Council, with many Brits travelling there due to its reputation and lower costs.

Compared to the cost of between £3,000 and £10,000 to get a hair transplant in Britain, one in Turkey can cost as little as £1,500.
