Cricket Australia unveils 2026-27 central contracts as Chloe Ainsworth and Lucy Hamilton earn maiden deals

Cricket Australia (CA) have announced the central contracts list for the 2026-27 season, rewarding emerging talents and reinforcing the depth of its Women’s cricket team. The 18-player roster features two fresh faces, Chloe Ainsworth and Lucy Hamilton, who have been handed their maiden contracts following impressive progress in domestic and international pathways.

The inclusion of Ainsworth and Hamilton marks a significant step in Australia’s long-term planning. Ainsworth, meanwhile, represents a more developmental investment. At just 20, she is yet to make her senior international debut but has shown enough promise in domestic cricket to earn a place among the country’s elite. Currently recovering from a foot injury, Ainsworth was unavailable for selection in the recent Green vs Gold fixture in Sydney, but selectors remain optimistic about her future impact.

Nicola Carey earns full contract after upgrade

All-rounder Nicola Carey has also been rewarded with a central contract after previously earning an upgrade during Australia’s tour of the West Indies. Her consistent contributions across formats and ability to provide balance to the side made her inclusion a logical decision.

Despite missing out on the West Indies tour, Grace Harris has retained her contract, underlining the selectors’ continued faith in her match-winning abilities. Similarly, Heather Graham has held onto her place in the squad.

Key omissions and transitions

The updated list also reflects a few notable changes. Fast bowler Tayla Vlaeminck and all-rounder Tess Flintoff were not offered renewed contracts this time around. In addition, former captain Alyssa Healy’s recent retirement has opened up space within the central contracts system.

Wicketkeeper Tahlia Wilson, who made her ODI debut during the West Indies tour, is the only player to have featured for Australia in the past year but not secured a contract. However, she remains eligible for an upgrade during the season.

Opportunities still open through upgrade system

Cricket Australia’s contract structure ensures that opportunities remain available throughout the year. Players outside the initial list can earn upgrades by accumulating performance points — five for a Test match and two each for ODIs and T20Is. Notably, Australia Women are gearing up for a packed international calendar. The highlight of the upcoming season will be the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England. Following the global tournament, the team will host Bangladesh and New Zealand for white-ball series at home.

The schedule also includes challenging away tours to Sri Lanka and South Africa, ensuring that the squad will be tested across varying conditions.
