Earth Hour is being celebrated across Pakistan

As the clock strikes 8:30 pm tonight, people across Pakistan have begun celebrating Earth Hour, a global movement dedicated to protecting the environment.

For the next one hour, citizens are switching off all non-essential lights in homes, offices, and public spaces to show their commitment to the planet. Streets, buildings, and landmarks are gradually going dark as the country participates in this symbolic act of solidarity for Earth.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urged citizens across Pakistan to participate in the global ‘Earth Hour’ by switching off non-essential lights for one hour, stressing that collective action is vital to combat climate change and secure a sustainable future for coming generations.

Earth Hour is a worldwide movement organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the event is held annually on the last Saturday of March to encourage individuals, communities and businesses to give an hour for Earth, marked by landmarks and businesses switching off non-essential lights from 830pm to 930pm to promote a sustainable, net-zero future.

Earth Hour is a reminder that small individual steps can collectively create a big impact. As Pakistan celebrates this hour, it highlights the shared responsibility of citizens in building a greener, safer, and more sustainable future.
