Chase, expecting significant turn, played down the wrong line — aiming around middle and leg — only for the ball to sneak past his bat and rattle the off stump.

West Indies in deep trouble

At lunch, West Indies were tottering at 66/5, still trailing by 220 runs and staring at a likely innings defeat. The pitch, though not overtly dangerous, has begun to assist the spinners with variable bounce and sharp drift. India’s decision to declare at their overnight score proved strategic, giving their bowlers enough time to exploit the conditions.

Ravindra Jadeja was the chief destroyer, picking up three wickets, while Kuldeep and Mohammed Siraj shared one apiece.
