IPL 2026 [WATCH]: Glenn Phillips pulls off a blinder after injury scare to send back Ayush Badoni in LSG vs GT clash

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 continues to deliver high-octane drama, and the 19th Match at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow was no exception. On April 12, 2026, fans witnessed a tactical masterclass and a moment of pure fielding brilliance as the Gujarat Titans (GT) traveled to face the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). In a contest defined by disciplined bowling and sharp reflexes, the Titans managed to keep the home side under significant pressure from the opening delivery.

Glenn Phillips holds on to a sensational catch after injury scare to remove Ayush Badoni in LSG vs GT match

The highlight of the evening came in the 9th over, providing a ‘heart-in-mouth’ moment for the GT dugout. At 8.2 overs, LSG was struggling to rebuild after losing their top order. Prasidh Krishna, who was breathing fire with his pace and bounce, steamed in and hit a hard length on off stump. Ayush Badoni, looking to break the shackles, attempted a forceful pull shot. However, the timing was absent, and the ball spiralled high toward deep midwicket.

The stadium went silent as Glenn Phillips, known for his cheetah-like agility, appeared to lose the ball in the treacherous Lucknow sun. After an initial stutter where he moved the wrong way, sparking fears of a missed chance or even a collision-induced injury, Phillips showcased why he is considered one of the world’s premier outfielders. With a sudden, acrobatic correction in the nick of time, he regained his bearings and lunged to secure a literal “blinder.”

This wicket was a massive blow for LSG, as Badoni departed for a scratchy 9 off 11 balls, leaving the hosts reeling at 74/4. The catch not only showcased Phillips’ elite spatial awareness but also solidified Krishna’s dominance in the middle overs.

GT hold LSG to an at par total in IPL 2026 game

Despite a fast start in the Powerplay, where LSG reached 50 runs in just 5.2 overs, the Gujarat Titans’ bowling unit executed their plans to perfection. The Lucknow Super Giants ended their innings at 164/8 after their full 20-over quota, a total that many experts consider at par or slightly under given the conditions.

The LSG scorecard told a story of starts that failed to convert. Aiden Markram looked the most fluent, top-scoring with 30 off 21 balls (including 5 fours), but his dismissal to Krishna triggered a middle-order wobble. Mitchell Marsh (11) and skipper Rishabh Pant (18) both fell cheaply to Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj, respectively.

In the back end of the innings, Nicholas Pooran (19) and Abdul Samad (18) tried to accelerate, but GT’s death bowling proved too precise. A late cameo by Mohammed Shami (12 off 5) pushed the total past 160, giving the LSG bowlers something to defend. As the teams headed into the break, the momentum remained firmly with Shubman Gill’s men, thanks largely to Phillips’ miracle in the field and Krishna’s four-wicket haul.
