IPL 2026: Yashasvi Jaiswal, bowlers script Rajasthan Royals’ commanding win over Mumbai Indians

A rain-hit evening in Guwahati turned into a thrilling yet one-sided contest as Rajasthan Royals (RR) delivered a commanding performance against Mumbai Indians (MI). With the match shortened to just 11 overs per side at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, the game demanded urgency from the very first ball – and RR responded in style. Led by a sensational knock from Yashasvi Jaiswal and backed by a clinical bowling effort, RR comfortably secured a 27-run victory, continuing their strong run in IPL 2026.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi take charge of Rajasthan Royals’ batting

Asked to bat first in a reduced contest, RR wasted no time asserting dominance. The opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and young sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi came out with fearless intent, taking MI bowlers by surprise. Right from the opening over, Jaiswal signaled his intentions by attacking aggressively, setting the tone for what followed.

The duo stitched together a stunning 80-run partnership in just five overs, completely shifting the momentum in Rajasthan’s favor. Jaiswal looked in supreme touch, timing the ball beautifully and finding gaps with ease. His unbeaten 77 off 32 balls was a masterclass in controlled aggression, decorated with 10 fours and 4 towering sixes.

Sooryavanshi, despite his young age, showed remarkable composure and confidence. His quickfire 39 off just 14 balls added immense pressure on MI’s bowling attack. One of the standout moments was when he confidently took on Jasprit Bumrah, smashing him for two sixes in the first over – an act that highlighted his fearless approach.

Even though MI managed to pick up a couple of wickets in the middle overs, Jaiswal ensured there was no slowdown. He held the innings together and powered RR to a formidable 150/3 in just 11 overs, a total that always looked challenging in a shortened game.

Chasing a steep target in a rain-reduced game is never easy, andMI  felt that pressure early on. RR bowlers came out with a clear plan and executed it to perfection, striking quick blows that derailed Mumbai’s chase almost immediately.

The top order collapsed under pressure as key players failed to get going. MI found themselves struggling at 22/3 within the first three overs, losing crucial wickets including Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Ryan Rickelton cheaply. This early damage proved too much to recover from.

RR’s bowling attack maintained tight lines and didn’t allow any breathing space. Ravi Bishnoi played a crucial role in dismantling the middle order, picking up important wickets at the right time. Sandeep Sharma complemented him well, using his experience to keep things tight and deliver key breakthroughs.

Though there were brief flashes of resistance from Sherfane Rutherford and Naman Dhir, the required run rate had already spiralled beyond control. RR’s bowlers stayed disciplined till the end, restricting MI to 123/9 and sealing a convincing win.

For his batting heroics, Jaiswal was adjudged the Player of the Match.
