QUETTA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 17th Oct, 2025) Governor Balochistan Jaffar Khan Mandokhel on Thursday said that Quetta is the hub of the province where only two or three hospitals are catering to the medical needs of the city’s 4 million population.
He expressed these views while addressing the participants of the Breast Cancer Seminar organized by BUITEMS University in collaboration with the World Health Organization.
On this occasion, Professor Dr. Khalid Hafeez of BUITEMS University, Vice Chancellor of University of Balochistan, Professor Dr. Zahoor Bazai, Vice Chancellor of Bolan Medical University, Professor Dr. Shabbir Ahmed Lehri, Principal Secretary to Governor Balochistan Kaleemullah Babar, Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Mirwais Kasi, Professor Dr. Muhammad Naeem Shahwani, Professor Dr. Asma Yousafzai, Tahani Javed (Chief Organizer), Dr. Ramiz Ishaq, Dr. Abdul Wajid, Dr. Gohram, Dr. Imrana Niaz Sultan, Dr. Rozeena Sheikh and Dr. Shahjahan Shabbir were present.
Addressing the seminar, the governor said that the dire need for a massive expansion in healthcare is evident, which requires the establishment of a state-of-the-art hospital with 2,000 beds saying that as the major medical hub of the province, Quetta demands a robust infrastructure to provide quality treatment and medical facilities to its residents.
He said that to address the growing concern of breast cancer, we would provide the proposed hospital with modern facilities to improve accurate diagnosis, preventive measures and survival rates,this initiative would change the healthcare landscape of Quetta.
The governor said that breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women worldwide.
Thousands of women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in Pakistan too.
In this regard, there is an urgent need to highlight the message that caution is life.
He said that Pashtun Baloch women are forced to carry water on their heads from many kilometers away in the 21st century.
In fact, the health of the mother is the secret of the health of the entire family. It is necessary to educate more people about breast cancer at the union council level and make them aware of easy methods of identification, he noted.
Jaffar Khan Mandokhel said that doctors and other health experts agree that the risk of breast cancer could be reduced with a balanced diet and regular exercise.
He also appreciated the efforts of the World Health Organization and the organizers of the University of Bathinda for organizing a successful seminar on breast cancer prevention and awareness.
He urged the Vice Chancellors of all public sector universities to cooperate with each other for the welfare of the people and ensure a bright but healthy future for the coming generations.
Finally, the governor distributed commemorative shields and certificates among the distinguished guests and organizers.
