1695 suspected measles cases reported in Punjab

The number of suspected measles cases has begun to increase in Punjab, with 1,695 suspected patients reported during the first four weeks of 2026.

According to details, 330 cases have been confirmed through laboratory testing. The report also states that 40 outbreak alerts have been issued across the province.

The Director General Health Services Punjab submitted a detailed report on the measles situation to the Lahore High Court.

In 2024, a total of 23,680 suspected measles cases were reported in Punjab, while 19,913 suspected cases were recorded in 2025. In 2024, 6,747 cases were laboratory confirmed, whereas in 2025, the number of confirmed cases stood at 4,000.

In 2024, 16 deaths were reported due to measles, while 4 deaths were recorded in 2025.

Amid the current situation, the Health Department has intensified monitoring efforts. Several meetings have been held under the leadership of the Chief Secretary and the Health Minister.

Surveillance has been strengthened in the affected districts to control the spread of measles, and stricter monitoring at both district and hospital levels has been directed.
