Annual inflation in Pakistan touches 13.98 percent, PBS reports

The data reveals that prices of 19 essential items increased during the week.

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) has released its weekly inflation report, showing a rise in the annual inflation rate to 13.98 percent.

According to the report, the rate of inflation was recorded at 12.16 percent in the previous week, indicating a notable year-on-year increase in price pressures.

The data reveals that prices of 19 essential items increased during the week, while 9 items became cheaper and 23 items remained stable.

Among key increases, potatoes rose by 3.13 percent, bread by 0.91 percent, and cooking oil by 0.69 percent. Prices of eggs, mutton, chicken, and ghee also registered upward movement.

On the other hand, tomatoes saw a sharp decline of 27.65 percent, while onions dropped by 9.35 percent. Prices of diesel, LPG, flour, and sugar also witnessed a decrease.

Despite mixed trends in essential commodities, the weekly inflation indicator showed a slight decline of 0.33 percent on a week-on-week basis.
