Fans erupt as Shubman Gill’s batting masterclass guide GT to thrilling win over KKR in IPL 2026

Gujarat Titans (GT) registered a thrilling five-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Match 25 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, successfully chasing down a competitive target of 181 with two balls to spare. A captain’s knock from Shubman Gill combined with impactful contributions from the middle order ensured GT stayed in control for most of the chase.

Kagiso Rabada rattles KKR before Cameron Green anchors innings

After Kolkata Knight Riders opted to bat first, their innings never quite found consistent momentum despite a valiant effort from Cameron Green. The early blows proved costly as Mohammed Siraj struck twice, including the prized wicket of Ajinkya Rahane for a duck, while Kagiso Rabada removed Angkrish Raghuvanshi with a sharp delivery and continued to trouble the batters throughout his spell.

KKR slipped to early trouble, but Green steadied the innings with a well-crafted 79 off 55 balls, laced with seven boundaries and four sixes. He found brief support from Rovman Powell, who added 27 off 20 balls, and a late cameo from Ramandeep Singh injected some urgency into the total. However, regular wickets halted any late surge, and KKR were bowled out for 180 in their allotted 20 overs.

Rabada was the standout performer with the ball, finishing with impressive figures of 3 for 29, while Siraj chipped in with two crucial wickets and maintained tight control. Ashok Sharma also picked up two wickets, though he proved slightly expensive.

Shubman Gill anchors chase with authority

In response, Gujarat Titans began confidently, with Sai Sudharsan providing early momentum before departing for 22. From there, Gill took charge of the innings, playing a captain’s knock under pressure. His 86 off 50 deliveries, studded with eight fours and four sixes, laid the foundation for a successful chase.

Jos Buttler added valuable support with a quickfire 25, ensuring the required run rate remained under control. Despite a brief wobble in the middle overs, where GT lost a couple of wickets in quick succession, Glenn Phillips and Washington Sundar ensured there was no major collapse.

Late nerves but GT hold their composure

Kolkata Knight Riders tried to claw their way back into the contest through Varun Chakaravarthy, who picked up two wickets and applied pressure in the middle overs. Sunil Narine also bowled economically, but the lack of breakthroughs at crucial moments hurt KKR.

Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan calmly finished proceedings for Gujarat Titans, guiding the team to 181 for 5 in 19.4 overs. Despite a late wicket from Ramandeep Singh, the target proved just within reach for the hosts.
