President Trump hints at US-Iran talks in Pakistan within days

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has suggested that future negotiations between the United States and Iran could take place within the next two days, while signaling a stronger preference for Pakistan as a potential venue.

Speaking to a reporter from the New York Post on Tuesday, Trump said he called back shortly after an earlier conversation to provide an updated statement on the evolving diplomatic situation.

He remarked that developments could occur within the next 48 hours, adding that the United States is “more inclined” toward Pakistan as a location for talks.

Trump praised Pakistan’s military leadership, referring to Asim Munir, saying: “He is doing a great job,” and suggesting that this is why Washington views Pakistan as a more likely venue for renewed engagement.

He also recalled his previous interactions with Asim Munir during a period of heightened regional tensions between Pakistan and India, which he said were resolved within days through a peace understanding that involved US diplomatic efforts.

Trump further stated that the United States sees value in engaging in locations where constructive diplomatic groundwork is already being done, adding that Pakistan remains a strong option for upcoming talks.
